Owner of early learning facility, Idemitsu, Boggabri Coal, said Tamworth contractor Greg Bartlett Construction started the build in late July.
The slab has gone down, timber frames have been installed and bricklayer is on site this week.
The expected build time is 18 weeks, making the anticipated completion date just shy of Christmas.
Idemitsu would like to open the centre in early 2021 but this is dependent on childcare licensing protocols.
Discussions are already well underway with Narrabri's Nurruby Childcare Services (NCS), which will license and operate the facility. The centre will meet demand for child care in the town.
Over the next few weeks, Idemitsu and NCS intend to establish a community-based advisory committee.

Idemitsu's chief executive officer Steve Kovac said the mining company was "very pleased" with the progress of the early learning facility.
"We look forward to the completion of this important facility and the service it will provide to our local community," he said.
The 397 square-metre centre, on the corner of Brent and Oakham streets, will cater for children aged 0-5 and provide after-school care for students aged 6-12.
