There was a lucky escape for the pilot after a plane crashed off the runway at Gunnedah Airport on Thursday afternoon.

The incident happened shortly after 1.30pm when the twin-engine aircraft was preparing to take off from Gunnedah.
The small plane slide off the runway and into grassland, and sustained damage to its undercarriage, propeller and wheels, emergency services told the Leader.
No one was injured in the emergency, but fluid and fuel was reported to be leaking from the plane.

Emergency services including firefighters and police rushed to the scene, just out of town.
The airport was closed immediately to all other small aircraft in the area, but no one was injured in the emergency.
A spokesperson for Fire and Rescue NSW confirmed crews were tasked to the plane crash at 1.44pm.
Firefighters said shortly after takeoff, the plane crashed into roadworks before coming to stop on grass.
The Gunnedah brigade worked to mop up the spill and a Hazmat crew was deployed from Tamworth to assist firefighters to clear the small spill.
It's unknown how many people were on board the plane at the time.
The cause of the incident is being investigated by authorities.
