Growing up on his family's diary farm outside Stroud Road, a postage stamp of a town 224 kilometres south-east of Tamworth, Williams got used to missing sport opportunities.
He boarded at Farrer in high school mainly because it allowed him to dive head first into his athletic passions.
And now he has done the same at Gunnedah FC, relishing his first opportunity to play 11-a-side soccer with his brother.
"I wasn't sure what the future held," said the bartender at West Tamworth League Club. "So I thought I better get a year in with my eldest brother, which has been really good. I love playing with him."
When Williams lost his job because of the pandemic, he moved from Tamworth to Gunnedah to live with Matt, who relocated to Gunnedah after uni and is now the side's skipper. Williams is back living in Tamworth.
Before this season, he had played for Gunnedah FC in six-a-side games.
"So I know most of the guys in the team," he said, in reference to pre-2020.
He is "more than happy" with his form.
Gunnedah - who won their first Premier Division match last round when they beat South United 3-1 - play Moore Creek at Gipps Street on Saturday.
