Nine local community groups will have some extra funds up their sleeves for some updates to their facilities thanks to a Gunnedah Shire Council program.

Six community organisations and three sporting clubs were successful in receiving a slice of funding from the latest round of the Section 356 Small Grants (Community and Sports) program.
One such recipient was the Gunnedah CWA, which received $1,145.45 for the removal and replacement of the floor covering in its kitchen.
The kitchen was renovated in 2014, and named the Doreen Baker Community Kitchen after a late Gunnedah woman.
Other recipients for the community grants include:
- $2490 for the Gunnedah and District Historical Society to install a new air lock front door for the Water Tower Museum
- $2600 for the Gunnedah Hospital Auxiliary Kiosk to supply and install reverse-cycle air conditioner in the kiosk
- $2569 for the Gunnedah Miners Support Association to convert historical mining photos to digital form
- $3,950.91 for the Gunnedah Liquor Accord Incorporation for new equipment to enhance COVID-19 safety in venues
- $3,351.19 for the Gunnedah Early Childhood Intervention for adaptive equipment for children with disability

Sports grants recipients include:
- $3,586.12 for Black and Blue Boxing for new boxing equipment
- $5000 for upgrades to the jockey change room at the Gunnedah Jockey Club
- $4,909.55 for Gunnedah Bulldogs AFL for new training and game day equipment
All recipients now have until June 30, 2022 to complete their projects.
Other applications for funds were also received but were unsuccessful. The remaining $4,009.45 from the community program and $2,963.33 from the sports program will be carried over to the 2021/2022 financial year.
The Section 356 Small Grants (Community and Sports) program has been in place since 2005/2006, and is designed to support the work of local not-for-profit, charitable community and sporting groups and organisations. The level of funding available is up to a maximum of $5000 and is dependent on the project.
