About 10km of the 17.6km gravel stretch has been tarred and Gunnedah Shire Council hopes to finish the work in the coming weeks.

Of the Mullaley to Goolhi section, about 8km is sealed and the remainder should be complete by mid-July.
About 2km of the Goolhi to Boggabri section is now sealed and work is progressing on the remaining 5km.
Shire mayor Jamie Chaffey said two crews were working on the roads project and running ahead of time.
"We're getting good comments from road users about the quality," he said.
The $8.2 million upgrade was started in late 2018 in response to safety concerns for locals and travellers and was the result of more than 10 years of lobbying.
When it is completed, Heavy Mass Limit (HML) vehicles will be able to use the road to travel from Mullaley to Boggabri. The route is currently General Mass Limited (GML).
The project is funded by the local, state and federal governments.
