An Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS) report released on Thursday reveals a total of 11,700 of the region's jobs have been lost since March, from the time when Australia benchmarked the 100th virus case.

After Newcastle and Lake Macquarie reported 25,300 job losses, Murray with 12,000, the New England North West comes in an unwelcome third place.

Hunter, excluding Newcastle and Lake Macquarie, follows closely with reported loss of 11,300 jobs.

The nation has experienced the biggest job loss ever recorded this May 2020 quarter, with a fall of 43 per cent.

JobKeeper numbers released by the NSW Treasury reveal 1524 people in Tamworth are now receiving the government assistance.

A JobKeeper reliance index compiled by Taylor Fry indicates which sectors have accessed the assistance the most, compared to the state average.

For the inner Tamworth region, most industries showed a less than five percent reliance on Jobkeeper, except sheep and cattle farming, which showed 15 per cent reliance on the scheme.

In Moonbi, the unemployed were the highest group dependent on the JobKeeper, with a reliance of 22.1 per cent.

While not surprised the region was one of the hardest hit, Business NSW Regional Manager Joe Townsend said the full picture will be revealed once JobKeeper payments come to an end.

"While JobKeeper continues to support some three Million Australians and prop up jobs, the true impact of the crisis will be seen when the stimulus packages are due to expire in September," Mr Townsend said.

Gunnedah's JobKeeper recipients came to 419, with the mining sector recording the highest uptake at 7.5 per cent.

Across the region, Armidale has 806 recipients with Inverell on 446.

Moree recorded 419 recipients, Quirindi 185, Tenterfield 217, with Uralla coming in at 138.
