The pair have owned and run the Royal Hotel in the farming community for five years but will do their last day of trading on Sunday.

The new owner is local and former staff member Faye Temperley who will run the pub with her fiance Tom Elsley.

Mr Archer is pleased there will be familiar faces behind the counter when he and Robyn move up north to Cambooya, near Toowoomba.

He said Ms Temperley worked behind the bar five years ago and "fell in love" with the district and a local fellow, so she soon became a local.

"We couldn't have found better people to take over," he said.

When the Archers first bought the pub in 2015?, they decided to stick with it for five years "and it's been five years".

"It's very rewarding but very hard work being in a hotel," Mr Archer said.

"I hope we've kept most people happy; we've probably upset a few along the way."

After more than two decades, the Archers have many memories to cherish.

"It's a big change for us and ... a bit of an end of a chapter," Mr Archer said.

"We're very sad ... we have got so many great friends, once-in-a-lifetime friends, that we are so sad to be leaving.

"I've put it down to, the most important job in the world is to raise your kids, and you couldn't find a better spot than Spring Ridge - and they are reared now."

Mr Archer said Robyn and her best friend Sonia Green were making the most of their last days in the same town.

"Every time they look at each other the past week, they've been crying," he said.

Together, the Green and Archer families started the annual fundraising fireworks event in the village, and the Archers will return next year to run it for old time's sake.

Speaking to NVI about the little town also made Mr Archer a little misty-eyed.

"I think Spring Ridge is a wonderful town. It's got such a great future. There are so many wonderful people out here. I wish them the best of luck," he said.

"It's been a wonderful chapter in our lives and it is with heavy hearts that we are leaving.

"I want to say how much regard I have for the Spring Ridge community and how much I'll miss it."

Despite the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and continuing restrictions, Mr Archer said recently "trade's actually been very strong".

"I would have to thank the Spring Ridge community for that. They are so supportive of local businesses, it's terrific," he said.

The pub will be closed on Monday and Tuesday and will reopen on Wednesday under the new ownership.
