A WOMAN and her passenger have been been hit with $1000 fines from Oxley police for being out without a reasonable excuse after she was warned earlier in the day.

Oxley police stopped the car the woman was driving on Station Street in Quirindi about 8.15pm on Monday.
They questioned the 37-year-old woman, who was behind the wheel of the Toyota Kluger, along with her 46-year-old male passenger.
Police said they had cause to search the vehicle and uncovered what they allege was methylamphetamine, or ice, as well as drug paraphernalia.

The man was issued a notice to front court for charges of possessing a prohibited drug and possession of equipment for administering prohibited drugs.
Police checks revealed the woman had earlier been intercepted by police on Monday, this time in Muswellbrook.
Police said the woman was issued a formal warning about non-essential travel at 10.30am.
Oxley police then issued the pair with $1000 penalty infringement notices for breaching public health orders for non-essential travel, and also issued a move-on direction.
The pair are the third and fourth in the entire police district to cop a $1000 fine since they were announced in mid-March as part of a list of government measures to help curb the spread of coronavirus.
Four people have been fined in the New England Police District after they were caught drinking at weekend gatherings, or stopped out and about on the road by police.
In the past 24 hours, NSW police confirmed 17 people had been issued the PINs across the state.
