Work is set to begin this week to improve drainage, and, weather permitting, will be complete by July.
Transport for NSW has engaged Gunnedah Shire Council to carry out the work, which will improve the road surface and reduce the frequency of highway closures during flooding.
Work will start on Tuesday April 7 at Grovewood, about four kilometres west of Gunnedah, to build a temporary side road to ensure traffic continues to flow smoothly before work to install new drains begins in mid-April.
