Sergeant Troy Woods told the NVI on Tuesday that they hadn't had any troubles with people breaking new self-isolation and social distancing rules, but many locals argued that this was not the case.
Kourtney Grace posted a photo of a group of people breaking social distancing rules, and said the police were contacted but "nothing was done about it".
"People aren't complying, the police just don't want to do their job and are trying to make our community look good. So obviously no fines were given," she wrote.
"I don't know who these people were but the rules go for everyone. So much for on the spot fines or 'breaking them up and moving them along'."

But Sergeant Terry Melville told the NVI on Wednesday afternoon that all incidents were being looked at by police officers.
"We have been proactively enforcing the regulations due to the absolute necessity with all the health issues. We are fielding a lot of reports at the moment, and every one is being taken seriously and being followed up," Sgt Melville said.
"If people see members of the public that are obviously breaching these regulations, either contact us or contact Crime Stoppers."
Jessy Cottee said she had expected a ghost town upon leaving her home on Wednesday morning, but this was not the case.
"It was worse than it has been and groups of four to nine mates congregating. Not families, mates," she wrote.
Sgt Melville said locals "should be aware of the restrictions by now", and that the police were "moving towards a zero tolerance".
"It's obviously in the news and in the media, there's no real reason that people shouldn't be aware of it and it's easily accessible on the Internet," he said.
"If the community don't get on the front foot now, people are going to die."
He said that if anyone in the community had any questions or concerns about the new rules, to give the station a call on 6742 9099.
Anyone with information about breaches to social distancing or self-isolation laws should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
