Gunnedah Shire Council meetings will be turning to the digital side for a while to ensure "the coronavirus causes the least disruption possible".

While the exact workings are yet to be determined, councillors and council staff will be joining via audio-visual link to the monthly meetings to ensure social distancing requirements are met.
A council spokesperson said the council was working hard to continue providing services to the community during the pandemic.

"Amendments have been made to the Local Government Act to allow councillors to attend council meetings through audio-visual links. The links will allow all councillors and necessary staff to "attend" and meetings to run as usual," the spokesperson said.
"Councillors and staff will be able to join the meeting from wherever they are."
Deputy mayor Rob Hooke said the change was a "great relief" as it meant it was "business as usual".
"That is only going to happen while this crisis is with us and after that council elections will go back to normal and so will council meetings," Cr Hooke said.
The spokesperson said the council was working out how meetings could be live-streamed for members of the public "to listen to the open session of the meeting".
The council said the length of time the arrangement would last would "dependent on how long Federal Government coronavirus measures remain in place".
