Emergency services were called to the scene on the Kamilaroi Highway near Curlewis at about 3.15am, but the middle-aged female driver and her passenger had only minor injuries and weren't taken to hospital.
Sergeant Terry Melville of Gunnedah police said speed and not driving to wet conditions were factors in the accident occurring.
He said alcohol wasn't a factor.
The Australian Rail Track Corporation (ARTC) were called to remove the car, but as it wasn't in the way of passing trains the removal wasn't urgent, Sgt Melville said.
Curlewis received 50mm of rain on Wednesday and bare paddocks flooded between Gunnedah and Curlewis.
