Gunnedah Show Society's George Truman said they are "waiting on direction" from the Agricultural Societies Council (ASC) for the show and also the Country Music Muster next week.
"At this stage they are having a meeting today and we will await their direction," he said.
"The plan is the [Gunnedah] executive is going to meet tomorrow morning."
Mr Truman said the show could not be simply postponed because "dates locked in three years in advance so we wouldn't have the show until next year".
He said it the show must be cancelled, "we would just start planning for next year's show".
Gunnedah RSL Sub-branch's Peter Kannengeisser said they are also awaiting word on whether Anzac Day commemorations will go ahead.
"We're waiting for a decision to be announced by the state and RSL headquarters," he said.
Mr Kannegeisser said the branch expected to receive advice "within a week".
"We will do our best to keep people informed," he said.
