A Gunnedah councillor's push to erect more electronic event signs in town has been met with backlash from residents, who believe the already existing sign is 'distracting'.

Gunnedah residents took to Facebook to express their opinions on the idea, with many agreeing the sign in Kitchener Park took drivers' eyes away from the road.
Simon Lister agreed with the idea of more signs, but said they shouldn't be "microscopic, unreadable ones" like the one in Kitchener Park.
"Remember, when driving you have only a small window to read the sign," Mr Lister wrote.

But Jodi Dolbel said more signs wouldn't be "great value for money".
"I don't think these have as big an impact as other forms of communication. They take your eyes off the road for ... one when there has already been pedestrian deaths on Conadilly Street," she wrote.
"I think creating events on Facebook, advertising at the tourist information centre and the event calendar council already uses is a much more effective and economical way of advertising a local event."
Councillor Murray O'Keefe, who vouched for the idea at the most recent ordinary council meeting, said it was "great to see divergent opinions and people engaging with the idea".
"Like any decision of council we should sit down, look at all the available evidence and facts from other communities that have done this ... and make the best decision we can based on what's presented to us as an elected body," Cr O'Keefe said.
"I certainly appreciate that council does not have an unlimited budget and our job as a band of elected representatives is to absolutely get the best bang for buck across a broad and diverse budget area for the residents of Gunnedah.
"We absolutely need to make the most of a scarce resource which is the ratepayers funds we are entrusted to manage."
Cr O'Keefe argued against the motion put forward at the meeting to move the allocation of $35,000 for a new sign to 2020/2021, after the Gunnedah bridge project's completion.
But the councillor said it had already been deferred for too long and needed fast-tracking.
His location ideas for more signs included the highway to Boggabri, west on the Mullaley Road, and west of Livvi's Place.
