Police are searching for a man they believe is connected to a handbag stealing in Tamworth and several serious break-ins in Gunnedah.

Between 10.30pm on Sunday and 6am on Monday, police received reports that homes had been broken into while residents were asleep.
A home on Stewart Street, Lincoln Street and two houses in Hopedale Avenue and Links Road were broken into. Police said cash was stolen.

About 3.20am on Monday, police were told a man broke into a home on Links Road when a resident woke up and the man fled on foot. No one was injured.
Oxley police were called and established a crime scene, with an investigation under way.
Police are also investigating reports of a stealing on Robert Street, Tamworth, at 12pm on Sunday.
Investigators believe the same person is connected to the incidents and are appealing for assistance from the community to find him.
The man is described as being Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander in appearance, about 150cm tall with a thin build and black hair. The man was last seen wearing a black jacket with green and cream camouflage knee-length shorts and a black cap.
Investigations are ongoing and police are urging anyone with information to contact Oxley police on 6768 2999.
