Locals are invited to pull up a stump at the community hall to enjoy a social night out and hear about how they can help themselves and others in the ongoing drought.

Rural Adversity Mental Health Program (RAMHP) coordinator, Matthew Milne, will be on hand to provide a listening ear, sounding board and connections to relevant services at the event hosted by RAMHP and Healthwise.

"[I'll be speaking] about looking after yourself and more particularly your mental health ... how to stay mentally healthy, signs to look out for in yourself and other people, and how to have a conversation with someone you're worried about," Mr Milne said.

"People have difficulty talking about mental health, which is why our biggest aim is to break stigma in the bush about mental health and seeking support, which a lot of people struggle with.

"I'm a psychologist by trade so I've got a lot of clinical skills I can bring to the event where I can answer questions directly and accurately. If people want to take action straight-away, I can connect them directly."

Healthwise senior primary health care nurse, Fiona Robertson, has been visiting the community for the last few years and said she knows "they're under stress and I thought I'd like to give them something".

She will offer free health checks at the upcoming event, which starts at 6pm.
