Ian Doyle's Meat Service will close this Saturday after manager Brett Streater handed in his letter of notice.

Mr Streater will be getting married this Easter and is looking forward to spending more time with family.

Both Ian and Pam Doyle are sad the business will be closing, but are more disappointed that they're "too old" to carry on looking after it.

"We cannot grumble about the business but I'm too old and Brett needs to do something else, and those two don't mix," Mr Doyle said.

"Brett's only young and ... these sorts of jobs do tire you, and quite understandably so. You don't come in and do four or five [hours], you're in here for 10 or more."

Mr Doyle handed over the reins to Mr Streater in December 2018 when he went into retirement, and with his son Troy overseas, there's no one to continue the business for the time being.

The business is now up for sale, and Mr Doyle is hoping someone can come in and continue its success soon.

"It's a beautiful spot and everything is ready. It carries between three and four men at one time and we have the cleaners in the afternoon, it's not struggling," he said.

"Someone can come and buy the business but the building isn't up for sale yet. Sometime later on we could put the building up for sale but we're just checking the water first."

Many Gunnedah businesses have been put up for sale in recent months for various reasons, including Gunnedah Indian Restaurant, Bitter Suite Cafe and Wine Bar, and Annie's Kitchen.
