The cards, previously known as the Why Leave Town Gunnedah Gift Card, were rebranded and relaunched in late November and by the end of the year, more than 2000 cards had been bought.
"It was the highest amount of money ever loaded onto Gunnedah gift cards - past and present - in one month," Gunnedah Shire Council's economic development manager Charlotte Hoddle said.
"This is wonderful news, and shows that when it counts, Gunnedah Shire residents really want to support their local businesses and services."

Ms Hoddle said it was "a great boost to our local retailers during the festive season" and she is urging residents with the cards to use them soon because it could help businesses in the drought.
More local businesses have joined the initiative bringing the list to almost 100.
