More than 11.1 million containers have been collected in Gunnedah's Return and Earn machine but the company is playing coy about whether a second machine will be installed.

The number of deposits grew by 15 per cent last year and TOMRA Cleanaway empties the machine twice a day, according to a spokesperson for the Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE).
However, there's still no word about a second machine after talk almost two years ago.

The reverse vending machine has been in action since December 2017, and in 2018, Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson said he would push for a second machine after more than 13,000 containers were returned in the first month alone.
On Wednesday, Mr Anderson said if residents felt there was a need for another machine, he like to hear from them.
"No one has come to me saying they want another machine, so obviously it's working well. If there is a need for another machine, certainly we can push for one," he said.
