The quality and condition overall was fair to good. There were some very good heavy steers and heifers off feed penned. The full complement of processors operated along with strong demand from both restocker and feedlotters.
Market trends through the young cattle were firm to dearer as demand increased in the face of that rain forecast.
Vealer steers to restockers remained firm, while the heifer portion achieved strong gains in places. Light weight yearling steers to restockers saw a dearer trend of as much as 13c/kg. Medium and heavy weight yearling feeder steers saw a firm to dearer market trend. The medium weights experiencing the best of the improvement.
Prices for heavy feeders were unchanged, however taking breed variation into account the trend was dearer. There was a strong improvement for the better quality light weight yearling heifers. The heavier weights suitable to feed saw a firm to slightly dearer trend. Well finished trade heifers were up to 9c/kg dearer.
Those well finished heavy grown steers attracted strong competition, with no market comparison. The well finished heifers sold on a firm to dearer trend.
Demand for cows was strong with restockers and feedlotters active on the plainer condition lines. They were slightly dearer. Well finished cows under strong competition from the full field of buyers saw a dearer trend of 30c to 40c/kg.
