The Namoi Valley Independent caught up with Gunnedah Fire and Rescue captain Dave Welch, who said the crew was working around Perisher, Thredbo and Jindabyne.
"Conditions have been favourable [but it's] very smoky throughout the whole area," Mr Welch said.
"Crews are in good spirits, working hard and long hours."

On Wednesday, the team was working in Siberia, near the Snowy Mountains.
Mr Welch said the empty towns were a sight to see, with most residents leaving to safety while the fires die down.
"Both Perisher and Thredbo have both been completely evacuated, it's very eerie with these towns being empty. These areas are basically totally surrounded by fires," he said.
"It is such beautiful country and there is millions of dollars of infrastructure for us to protect and defend."
Mr Welch, alongside Nick Wild and David Moses, have been deployed for five days and have been in the area since Sunday.
They took over from Tammey McAllan, Monica Bentham, Andrew George and Andrew Johns who were based in the Nowra area for the majority of their deployment.
Gunnedah company Kennedy Air have also been helping across the country, dropping water and flame retardant on properties in towns like Moruya, Toowoomba, Mudgee and Wagga Wagga to protect them from fire.
