The Gunnedah Shire Council initiative aims to provide temporary employment from early 2020 for residents who have been impacted by the drought. This may include farmers, farm workers, contractors, business owners, suppliers and employees in related industries.

Council's project manager Colin Formann said it was an opportunity for locals earn income in difficult times and make a valuable community contribution at the same time.
"This program will be as flexible as possible to benefit as many people as possible," Mr Formann said.
"It will also offer the chance to gain new skills and build on existing skills to expand people's future employment opportunities."
Temporary employment will be co-ordinated through a Gunnedah employment agency and participants will have the chance to work on various community projects in the shire.
Any required training will be provided as part of the program and pay will line up with the local government award.

- An opportunity to learn new skills and gain current workplace experience
