Don't worry, we are only closed for the library to be re-carpeted, and while that work is being done, the staff are still busy preparing books and programs, ready for the opening on January 6, 2020.
If you require more books during the shutdown period, there are two pop up libraries in town, one at the Civic and the other at the Town Hall conservatorium. These are all old books, and can just be taken. There will also be a trolley of discarded books outside the library until Friday, December 20.

Please don't leave your library books at these locations - any material that you have checked out prior to the closing still needs to be returned to the library when it reopens or down the afterhours chute to the left of the door.
New books are still being processed and will be added to the shelves - something to look forward to when the library re-opens! Look out for Imaginary friend by Stephen Chbosky, described as, "A haunting and thrilling novel pulsing with the radical empathy" and "imbued with heart and soul". You'll fall in love with these characters.
For young adult readers, a new title is Lyla: a novel, "a griping and personal story about one girl's experience of the 2011 Christchurch earthquake and its aftermath".
As soon as the library reopens on Monday, January 6, we will launch into the Summer School Holiday program, and the theme for this year is Australiana!
The library will be decorated with Australian animals, birds and flowers that children, and adults, can contribute to if they wish. There's Toddler time for the younger readers on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings at 10.30 am, and Crafty Creations for older children at 3.30 pm. There's a three dollar charge to cover the cost of materials for the older children in the afternoons.
The first week it's stories and handicrafts about Birds and insects, the second week features Flowers and Fish, and the third week will concentrate on Animals. So don't forget to come to the library and see what you can create!
See you next year at the library!
