Ms Rennick was one of four vying for the ARIA Music Teacher of the Year Award and travelled to Sydney with Gunnedah Conservatorium director Rebecca Ryan for the awards.

When the NVI caught up with Ms Rennick on Thursday, she said it was an "extraordinary day".

"I just felt so delighted ... it was absolutely marvellous," she said.

"It was a great honour and such a great acknowledgement of music education for children in Australia and I think our nominations really highlighted that."

Ms Ryan took to social media to record the experience and said it was "a joy" to see Ms Rennick on the red carpet.

"We all know how amazing Julia is and now the rest of the country knows too," she wrote.

"A great message about kindness underpinned many of the acceptance speeches tonight. It's something Julia has always lived - a philosophy of just simply being kind to others.

"I have a feeling things will never quite be the same."

Ms Rennick said while it was "super fun" she was "looking forward to returning back to normal".

The winner was decided by public vote and Antonio Chiapetta took home the ARIA.
