Inspector Michael Wurth said when the male occupant of the house came outside to tell the men to leave, he was allegedly assaulted by the three offenders.
Police claim that when the occupant retreated back inside the house, two of the offenders allegedly forced their way in through a door and chased the victim back outside.
A woman in the house was also allegedly threatened by one of the offenders when she went outside to help.
Gunnedah police claim a number of items were destroyed outside the house before the trio left.
Gunnedah police and Narrabri detectives have been investigating the home invasion.
Following investigations, the three men were arrested by police this week and charged with aggravated break-and-enter with intent; affray; and malicious damage.
All three men have been ordered to appear in Gunnedah Local Court in December and January.
Inspector Wurth said investigations into the home invasion were continuing and police want to speak to any witnesses who might have seen something suspicious about the time of the break-in, or were in the Carroll Street area.
