Waking up in the middle of the night isn't usually a pleasant occurrence but not too many people will be unhappy if it's accompanied by the pitter patter of raindrops on the roof.
And there's a good chance it could happen overnight.
The Bureau of Meteorology is predicting rain around the region over the next two days with the first of it coming in the early hours of the morning.
There's a 70 per cent chance for Gunnedah to get between three and eight millimetres on Tuesday while those clouds will hopefully hang around on Wednesday as well.
Tamworth, Quirindi, Armidale and Glen Innes are also a chance to get a soaking while rain isn't as likely in towns around Inverell and Moree.
If the rain does eventuate, it will be the first time it has rained in Gunnedah in over a month.
There is also a chance for a little more rain on Sunday.
