The girls are the first set of fraternal female twins in four generations in the Mirow and Shaw families.
In 1936, Cath O'Neill (nee Mirow) gave birth to Patricia and Tess in Gunnedah, and on the Shaw side, Ruth Bennie gave birth to Elizabeth and Marion in Nowra.
The Penrose twins are granddaughters for Gunnedah's Robyn and Mac Howarth, and great granddaughters for Gunnedah's Nancy Mirow (nee Shaw).
They were born to former Gunnedah woman Emma (nee Howarth) and her husband Jamal Penrose at 32 weeks on May 13, 2019 at the Nepean Hospital in Kingswood.
At birth, Charlotte weighed 1.7kg and measured 40cm in length. Lucy weighed 1.1kg and measured 34cm at birth.
The girls are also granddaughters for Anthony Penrose and May Wilkinson in the United Kingdom.
The Penrose family lives in Brocklehurst near Dubbo.
Grandmother Robyn Howarth said it was "amazing" to look back at the history and "very exciting" to see another set of twins join the families.
