The signs on the Kamilaroi and Oxley highways were updated in July as part of the council's rebranding but drew criticism from residents on social media.
"Gunnedah Shire Council was not 100 per cent happy with the design of the entrance signs," council's economic development manager Charlotte Hoddle said.
"These signs are the first official welcome to Gunnedah Shire and it is important to give people a great impression when they visit."

The signs were designed and installed by Danthonia Designs near Inverell and cost more than $21,000.
Ms Hoddle said the council was now consulting with a designer to "come up with the best possible result".
"This is likely to be a modification of the existing signs," she said.
"The outstanding cost will depend on the course of action and it will be met through the existing budget."
Ms Hoddle said the council carried out "extensive community consultation" to inform the shire's rebranding and was "really proud" of the Gunnedah brand.
"[We] believe it showcases that we are the sum of individuals doing amazing things. Our entrance signs need to be a true representation of what we have to offer," she said.
The issue was discussed briefly at last month's meeting when planning and environmental director Andrew Johns responded to a question on notice from councillor Owen Hasler about why a local company hadn't been chosen.
Mr Johns said council staff had sought out three quotes and chose Danthonia Designs because its quote had "best met procurement policy and procedure" and it had a good track record.
