GUNNEDAH Evening VIEW Club members were treated to an "armchair travel" journey to Antarctica when guests speakers Margaret and David Amos presented a pictorial review of their once-in-a-lifetime trip.

Blended with a short history of exploration, the couple's journey came to life with images of glistening inlets, towering snow-swept mountains, rocky cliff sides, pebbled beaches and floating ice sculptures, as well as a giant iceberg as big as a city block.
Their cruise left Ushuaia in Argentina, and was followed by a two-day journey across the Drake Passage. Layering up to disembark the the ship in Zodiacs, the group was regularly entertained by colonies of penguins, seals and occasionally a whale.
Members asked a myriad of questions after the fascinating presentation and program officer Sue Braby presented flowers to the couple as a token of appreciation.
Next month, the club will celebrate its 29th birthday with a pink theme saluting the Pinking Up Gunnedah campaign for the McGrath Foundation.
The club is grateful to The Greater Bank for its donation of $1000 through the community funding scheme, where regional organisations can share in $5000 chosen by community votes each month.
Adrienne Stubbs will represent the club at the VIEW National Convention on the Sunshine Coast later this month. Evening VIEW Club member Deirdre Andren's 'Making a Difference Award' will be announced, along with other recipients.
The club has received invitations to Tamworth Day VIEW Club's 51st birthday, on September 18, at West Diggers, and Manilla VIEW Club's 26th birthday, on October 1, at the Royal Hotel.
The next dinner meeting will be held at the bowling club dining room, on Wednesday, October 2, at 6.30pm, for 7pm. Apologies and names of guests should be phoned Kate on 6742 3926 by the Monday night prior to the meeting. Competition donors are Lorraine Overton (raffle), Pauline Grant (lucky door).
