The fire started in the garden lining the side of the Northwest Family Medical Centre in Barber Street, and staff were alerted by a patient coming into the clinic.
GP Chris Gittoes told the NVI that it was all hands-on deck as both staff and patients evacuated and grabbed hoses and fire extinguishers to fight the flames while they waited for firefighters to arrive. Part of the road was closed by authorities.

The fire jumped trees lining the fence that the clinic shares with Taylor Automotive, travelling to the car dealer's trees lining the other side of the fence. It burnt more than 10 trees to a crisp.
When the NVI arrived on the scene, the flames were out and firefighters were still hosing down the vegetation.
Gunnedah Rural Fire Service, paramedics and police were all called to the scene.
About 2.30pm, staff were allowed to re-enter their buildings.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
