Mrs Ravenwood said the community event, Belt out the Big Dry, aimed to raise spirits in the drought and bring locals together at The Gunnedah.

"This is the first of hopefully many Belt out the Big Dry events to be held in towns across Queensland and NSW, so it would be great to get this one off the ground with a bang," she said.

"Belt Out The Big Dry will see us all belting out a stack of well-known classic tunes over a chat and a beer - and you don't need any experience or musical talent to be part of it.

"It's a great opportunity to get friends and family together for a bit of a different, low-cost night out, which is important for so many reasons, especially with the increasing intensity of the drought and the impact that rural communities are experiencing."

Mrs Ravenwood said singing together in a group was becoming more widely recognised for its benefits in terms of health and well-being.

"They say laughter is the best medicine, but music is pretty close behind," she said.

Mrs Ravenwood's brother Cameron, aka Daddy Dollar$, will DJ after the singing wraps up.

"Cam is well known around Gunnedah and is a popular DJ around country and metropolitan NSW for weddings, social and charity events, especially in the rugby community.

"This is the first time we've come together to put on an event, and we're really excited to be able to do it in our home town."
