The council has fenced off the roadside at the corner of the highway and Boundary Road to construct a roundabout to improve safety and traffic efficiency.
The intersection is a main thoroughfare for trucks turning onto the heavy vehicle route to travel in the direction of Coonabarabran and was identified in the Oxley Highway corridor strategy as needing an upgrade.

Road and Maritime Services (RMS) said early works include site establishment, soil testing, removing vegetation, storm water and water main installation and early earthwork, followed by major construction.
Work is being carried out between 7am and 4.30pm, with neighbouring homes to be notified if work needs to occur outside these hours. No work will occur during AgQuip.
Access to properties in the area will be maintained at all times but traffic may be reduced to one lane on the highway and Boundary Road during work hours. A reduced speed limit will also be in place and may affect travel times.
The work is expected to take about nine months to complete, weather-permitting.
