AN ELDERLY man is recovering in hospital after he spent the night out in the cold when he fell from his mobility scooter.

Athol Bruyn was found at the Who'd A Thought It Lookout in Quirindi early on Friday morning.
The 68-year-old disappeared on Thursday afternoon, sparking a major police search in the town.
Officers and community members scoured several areas in Quirindi until 2am on Friday, before resuming the search in daylight.
Mr Bruyn was last seen at 1.30pm in the main street of the town but did not return to a local nursing home, where the alarm was raised.

Police said Mr Bruyn can't walk or talk, and fell from his mobility scooter at the lookout on Thursday afternoon. It's understood he tried to walk but fell, and spent the night out in the cold.
Community members discovered him early on Friday at the lookout and he was taken to Quirindi hospital for observation.
Officers said he was safe and well, but obviously cold, and was in a stable condition, recovering.
Police have thanked the public, including the locals who joined the search.
