It's time for the region's artists to take up their paint brushes and pottery and prepare for Arts Gunnedah's 49th Annual Arts and Ceramics Exhibition.

The annual exhibition is a highlight on the Gunnedah calendar and attracts entries from the local region, Queensland, inter-state, the Sydney metropolitan area and the Hunter Valley.
Arts Gunnedah's Shirley Urquhart said the exhibition was "quite lucrative" with prize money this year of almost $7000 for artists across 15 categories.

Mrs Urquhart said they had been spreading the word ahead of the closing date on August 5.
"It will showcase a variety of media and give everyone an opportunity to see works not just from local regional artists but also further afield," she said.
She said the exhibition attracts professional and well-known artists and entries were usually strong in the novice section, with "lots of people starting to paint".
Arts Gunnedah is encouraging youth to enter the 10-14 years and 15-18 years categories.
Categories this year are: open (any subject, any medium), watercolour, graphics (including pastels), printmaking, miniature, local subject and local artist (Liverpool Plains area), still life, novice, sculpture, youth 10-14 years, youth 15-18 years, thrown pot, hand-built ceramics, and novice ceramics. Art grand champion will win $1200, people's choice will win $200 and ceramics grand champion prize is $600.
This year's exhibition on Friday, August 16 at the Gunnedah Bicentennial Creative Arts Gallery will be opened by Gunnedah woman, The Hon. Sarah Mitchell MLC. The arts and ceramics judges will be present to share their thoughts on the works.
The opening at 6pm is $20 per person and will include "fine food, wine and entertainment" by Gunnedah Conservatorium. A "stunning" print by the late Pat Rowley will be raffled on the night.
Entry forms are available from the Creative Arts Gallery. Works are to be delivered to the gallery on August 12 from 10am-1pm.
