North West Local Land Services' Bill Manning said the "draw card" of the event on July 30 was the variety of technology that will be demonstrated.

"Weeds are becoming resistant to herbicides so we need to understand how to deal with this and the technology on display we're talking about here will help us deal with the problem," he said.

"I think there's a chance to see some new technology and find out the potential of the technology and also the limits of the technology.

"If we can, for instance, map weeds from drones ... instead of spraying a whole paddock, we can spray individual weeds or patches of weeds, which would enable you to use more expensive chemicals or a higher rate of a chemical.

"[It's] a strategic approach to enable you to use chemicals in a more targeted fashion."

One of the exhibitors is Alex Olsen who has spent five years detecting weed species with cameras for his PHD and will demonstrate start-up Autoweed on a crop weed.

"We've developed a green-on-green spot spraying tool - spraying weeds in a crop not in a fallow. Up until now that hasn't been done," he said.

"We've been able to do this with advances in artificial intelligence and robotics machinery.

"We think our technology is transferable to crops and we're looking to get into that market. We're hopeful of getting high accuracies in the crop to compete with [other companies].

"The time is right for green-on-green in crop and we feel we're the ones to do it."

Other technology on show will include a weed chipper, autonomous robot and drones.

The New Weed Control Technology for Integrated Weed Management field day will be held at "Nowley" near Spring Ridge on Tuesday, July 30 from 9am. Morning tea and lunch are provided but attendees need to bring their own chair.
