The Liverpool Plains Shire Council (LPSC) Heritage Strategy 2019-2022 has been put in place, and will be submitted to the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage in order to preserve the shire's history.

The strategy contains a number of objectives designed to ensure the future effective management of the shire's cultural heritage, and allows for a three year funding arrangement with the NSW office. It follows on from the 2018-2019 Heritage Action Plan.
"Objectives include caring for our heritage via increased community participation, awareness and appreciation of its value, proactive heritage urban design and management, and proactive conservation and management of heritage items," LPSC mayor Andrew Hope said.

The council has inspected and provided advice for the preservation of a number of locations across the shire, including private properties, the Cenotaph War Memorial in Werris Creek, the Historical Cottage and Museum at Quirindi, the Imperial Hotel Quirindi, the refrigerated railway wagon adjacent to Werris Creek rail precinct, Spring Ridge Cemetery, St Andrew's Uniting Church Werris Creek, and the Werris Creek rail precinct.
"LPSC acknowledges the importance of and the need to preserve our history and unique heritage where appropriate. The Heritage Action Plan and Heritage Strategy are important tools, along with the Local Heritage Fund, in achieving this goal," he said.
"The Heritage Action Plan details key performance areas and outlines a range of achievements which demonstrate the program's positive contribution to the local community from a social, environmental and economic perspective."
2018-2019 achievements include advice on the restoration of the Edward Grimes Underwood Memorial Gates in Quirindi, the formal listing of the East Warrah Woolshed on the NSW State Heritage Register, and advice on the restoration, reuse and stabilisation of the Windy Woolshed.
"During 2018/19 the Local Heritage Fund provided assistance to five restoration and repair projects on heritage buildings. The completed projects had a combined value of $85,633.90, of which the Local Heritage Fund provided $11,500," Cr Hope said.
