The future of the clinic is uncertain after its only remaining doctor, Dr Jennifer Hunter, resigned. When Dr Hunter leaves on July 23, the centre may close if no replacement is found.
Both Parkes MP Mark Coulton and Gunnedah Shire Council are hoping a solution can be found.

Gunnedah mayor Jamie Chaffey said he was glad the centre had the back of Mr Coulton and the federal government, and said that federal backing meant they were "working closely" with the hospital's management team.
Cr Chaffey said the council saw the clinic as a "great provider of health services in our community" and was hoping new doctors would become available.
"I think as a community we all want to see Mackellar Rural Health Centre continue to operate," Cr Chaffey said.
"If that doesn't happen in the future then as a community we will work together to ensure the medical needs of our community are understood and any support required will be sought from other tiers of government."
Mackellar Care bought the Gunnedah Rural Health Centre in November 2017. The land is leased by Hunter New England Health.
