Race club president Les Alker said "the gate was up" this year and punters arrived in 17 buses from Gunnedah, Tamworth, Quirindi, Moree, Narrabri, Manilla and Attunga.
"I thought the day was a fantastic day. We had a lot of fun," he said.
"People were having a ball. It was a bit chilly but it didn't seem to affect them.
"They come there to enjoy themselves and they obey the golden rule - leave the worst of yourself on the road and bring the best of yourself through the gate - and that's exactly what they did, and it was a wonderful day."

Local musicians Mike Brady and David Sleath entertained the crowds and "they did a wonderful job".
"Everyone loved the music," Mr Alker said.
The president was also pleased to see plenty of people embracing the theme and said the film Grease was the inspiration for a number of race-goers with Pink Ladies, Danny Zuko and Sandy Olsson among the crowds.
"Our theme was great," he said.
"They dressed up as their favourite rock star".
Mr Alker said while it was a tough year for the committee, they managed to pull through.
"It was a bit difficult this year because of the drought. The committee had a lot of trouble finding the time to run the event. It's just one of those years," he said.
Gunnedah Shire Band normally run the bar and man the gate but was unable to commit this year because of the upcoming State Band Championships.
"Three weeks before races we had no staff," he said.
"[Narrabri] Can Assist at very short notice supported us with extra staff, so a special thank you to them," Mr Alker said.
"[They] has taken over running the bar and gate as our full-time partner."
Mr Alker said the committee was also thankful to David Grover who "did a tremendous amount of preparation of the grounds by himself".
This year more than $4000 was raised for Narrabri Can Assist.
