Liverpool Plains Shire Council (LPSC) mayor Andrew Hope said he would be looking at skills shortages within Namoi Unlimited's five local government areas (LGA) to determine how to "train and retrain" locals in different professions.

"I'll be putting a regional document together to go to the government and say the regional short falls are these [so] we can ensure the courses and opportunities are available in the region," Cr Hope said.

"[It's a role] I'm fairly passionate about - opportunities for our youth to train and retrain in professions.

"The aim is to stop the youth leaving and heading to bigger centres."

Current projects include the recently announced Water for the Future strategy, the Namoi Roads Network Strategy, and the Enabled and Connected Infrastructure strategy.

Namoi Unlimited chairperson and Gunnedah Shire Council mayor Jamie Chaffey said the already existing strategies were still of the utmost importance for the coming year.

"We'll continue on with other strategies like the road strategies as we need the funding to complete the works required but the Water for the Future report will be the dominating strategy going forward," Cr Chaffey said.

"This document will be a guiding document for the organisation and has 33 recommendations that will assist the organisation in the development of programs and initiatives required by all tiers of government to help deliver better outcomes into the near future."

Individual mayors have also been given new roles for the year to help all of the five member councils.

Cr Hope said LPSC was "looking forward to the year ahead" with the other four member councils.

"I'm also looking forward to keep on achieving like we have in the past and building on our relationships with each other," he said.

Cr Chaffey said it was great the joint organisations were able to work together as a team.

"We've worked really hard at turning our organisation into one that is not isolated mayors that are about their own shires [and we've] built that understanding that the issues in our regions aren't defined by the borders of our LGA," he said.
