Funding for the program was announced in last week's state budget and a Transport NSW spokesperson said "planning is underway for an accessibility upgrade" at the Gunnedah station.

"Preliminary investigations will be undertaken to help identify what upgrades will be required to make Gunnedah Station fully accessible," they said.
"This may include platform re-grading and installation of tactile ground surface indicators, improvements to waiting room and toilet amenities, modifications to existing ramp and pathways, an accessible car parking space and kiss and ride space."
The station has been the focus of change in the last six months, with new gardens established in late 2018, and most recently, an upgrade for the public address (PA) system to improve accessibility.
"All existing speakers were removed and replaced with the latest state of the art speakers and an Audio Frequency Induction Loop was also installed to help customers with hearing impairments receive announcements," the spokesperson said.
"A cable was laid into the surface of the platform and that enables PA announcements to be transmitted by a radio frequency that can be picked up with hearing aids.
"When a customer with hearing aids walks over the 60 square-metre area, they will be able to hear our PA announcements broadcast through the audio loop."
The changes come at a opportune time as the station nears its 140th anniversary in September.
