Tamworth MP Kevin Anderson, who announced the budget funding for the main thoroughfare connecting Boggabri and Manilla, said he was "so pleased we have been given the green light to get on with the job".
"This will be such an important road for the region. We need to make sure we provide a safe route for those who travel along it daily," Mr Anderson said.

A spokesperson for Whitehaven Coal echoed Mr Anderson's comments.
"As the largest employer in North West NSW, we welcome the NSW government's commitment to seal Rangari Road," the spokesperson said.
"As we continue to grow, with an anticipated 500 construction and 450 operational jobs should the Vickery Extension Project be approved, it's important the region has the infrastructure to support an expanded workforce and growing community."
However, the Shooters, Fishers and Farmers Party's Jeff Bacon said he was still "sceptical" the job would get done.
"When the tar is on the road, it's been fulfilled," Mr Bacon said.
"It's been a promise before and there's a growing scepticism that these promises won't be delivered, but seeing it in the budget is a good sign and we hope to see it delivered."
