Public school principal Ben Carter said there were 66 competitors in each age group in the primary round in the morning, with 12 of Mullaley's own students vying for placings. Year 6 boy Eamon Martin was the only one to make it through to state, coming fourth in the 12/13 group.
Gunnedah High School, Gunnedah South Public School and Gunnedah Public School also competed.
Mr Carter said Lightning Ridge students stayed in the school grounds on Thursday night but many students from far afield had to book accommodation in Gunnedah.
"I came back from Sydney last night and all the motels were full in town, which was really good to see," he said.
The event was run by the North West Schools Sports Association.
