Some of the highlights of this year's program include a free movie screening of Indigenous film Gurrumul, an exhibition at the Gunnedah Bicentennial Creative Arts Gallery, and the annual Cumbo Gunnerah Run.

Gunnedah NAIDOC Committee member Mya McRae said this year's theme - Voice. Treaty. Truth. Let's all work together for a shared future - was about "self-determination and decision making".

"The theme is [also] about ... enhancing the role of communities to have a voice and to be proud of culture and proud of country," Ms McRae said.

"NAIDOC Week is a celebration for all of the community to learn about and celebrate Indigenous culture and it's a really beautiful collective day for everyone in Gunnedah."

Ms McRae is encouraging locals to participate in the street march and flag-raising ceremony on Sunday, July 14 at 10am.

"We march together in unity and acknowledgement of Indigenous culture and a celebration of the oldest culture known to man," she said.

The march will culminate in a family fun day at Wolseley Park where "everyone is invited to enjoy the activities".
