Gunnedah PCYC club director Michelle Gosper said she hoped the entire outdoor area would be completed by September.
"We're getting the yard completed and we're hoping in August/September it'll be open and [we can] have movie marathon nights and open it for the community," Ms Gosper said.
"We're hoping it can be hired out for parties and to have a free community movie night once every quarter, too."
As part of the works, a man-made hill has been installed in the grass for an area to set up picnic blankets for a better view of the screen. The screen will be placed on the wall of the PCYC building, with the projector to be installed on the underside of the metal shaded area.
"We were looking for major projects within the community and we already knew we wanted to have a focus on youth and it was coincidental that the PCYC had approached us to get some help," Mrs Austin said.
"We agreed it was a great idea and that it would be great for our community to use."
