Gunnedah Headspace has partnered with the Northern Inland Academy of Sport (NIAS) to provide important information to young athletes at NIAS' next Life Skills Education session.

More than 100 NIAS athletes who play basketball, tennis, rugby union and rugby league will attend the session at Gunnedah Services and Bowling Club on Sunday, June 30.

NIAS' Sam Rains said it was great mental health would be added to the list of topics, which always includes physiotherapy, sports psychology, and nutrition.
"The kids need to understand how important mental health is, [as it] hasn't really been broached in the past," Mr Rains said.
"It is something as an athlete you need to take seriously as it can impact both your on-field performance and off-field performance, too."
The athletes, ranging from 12-17 years of age, will receive helpful life skills from Armidale nutritionist Selena Chan, Armidale sports psychologist Marni Hietbrink, and Tamworth physiotherapists Warren Ansell and Jake McManus, as well as a representative from Gunnedah Headspace.
"[They] will talk from half an hour to an hour to give kids a broad understanding of what's out there and how they can improve their performance on and off the field," Mr Rains said.
