For two years, scientists at Dominos HQ have been busy developing the pizza checker, and there's one here in Gunnedah.

Mark Coyle owns the store, he started as a delivery boy and worked his way through the ranks.

On average Gunnedah residents eat 2500 pizzas every week, he said.

"This was a concept dreams up two years and and I got to see it from the early stages of development," Mr Coyle said.

"The biggest thing I'm looking forward to is a bit more consistency, the staff are more conscious of it now and it's almost been gamified because it gives you a real time score."

The AI pizza checker is a camera above the cut bench that takes a photo of every pizza that goes out the door.

The technology will compare the order with the toppings to make sure they are correct, analyze the spread of the base and how accurate the sauce ratio is.

A pizza then receives a percentage score on how close to perfect it is.

The flashy bit of gear is designed to put a stop to the number one complaint that a pizza doesn't look the way it should.

Mr Coyle said the tech has been tested in-store for two months.

"My understanding is that it's roughly $5000 worth of equipment there," he said.

"I guess we started a long time ago bringing technology into the hospitality experience, with our GPS we can track the delivery driver's real-time breaking, how fast they go around corners.

"This is another method to run a better system and safer environment for customers and staff."
