Gunnedah Shire Library will be one of many locations around the country participating in National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS) on Wednesday, May 22.
This year, Alpacas with Maracas, written and illustrated by Matt Cosgrove, will be read aloud at 11am at the Gunnedah library, with local Glenys Jones in the hot seat.
The book follows the story of Macca and his pal Al who are the best of friends and enter a local talent contest together.
It will be a busy morning at the library, with a 1000 Books After School certificate presentation at 10am, followed by stories, then Alpacas with Maracas at 11am.
The library's festivities will start at 10am when Gunnedah's deputy mayor Rob Hooke presents milestone certificates for the 1000 Books After School program.
At 10.30am, other stories will be read before NSS at 11am. A Biggest Morning Tea will follow at 11.10am to raise funds for Cancer Council Australia.
NSS is in its 19th years and aims to promote the value of reading and literacy.
