Garnet James Buckley was bandmaster of Gunnedah Shire Band from 1948-1966, before he moved to Newcastle.
Unfortunately, he was unable to attend the presentation to show how much the group meant to him.

But his wish was granted by his wife Marian Buckley, who travelled all the way from Perth to present the bugle to the band he first started in.
Mrs Buckley became emotional as she described the impact the Gunnedah Shire Band had on Garnet's life.
"It gives me much pleasure in gifting Garnet's bugle to the band where he was taught to play his love of music," Mrs Buckley said.
Current bandmaster Laurence Rowe said the presentation was "a true reflection of what bands are all about".
"[Learning an instrument] is a little bit different than other life skills," Mr Rowe said.
"It stays with you forever; here's a guy who's 80 years old and he's still playing in his nursing home."
Mr Rowe said he hoped the bugle would be a feature of the band hall.
"The way the bugle is presented in that case is lovely," he said.
"We'll certainly find a prime spot for it so every player that comes into the band can be told a bit about its background.
"I'd love to see it played around town for the band's sake; it will create a different Anzac Day atmosphere, as it's a different sound."
