The RFS will be holding a fundraising day at the Curlewis Commercial Hotel where they will have their hair shaved and coloured from 12pm. A number of community members will also brave the shave, including hotel owner Kevin Edmunds.

"A few members of the brigade haven't seen me without a moustache, so a few people will chuck in just to see the mo go," he said.

"As long as we get a few dollars to help support cancer research, we’ll be pretty happy," Mr Kirby said.

Brigade member Josh Lay said he wanted to take part as many people in his life had been affected by cancer. 

"We’ve been touched a bit by cancer, particularly in my family," Mr Leys said.

"I lost my grandfather last year, my mother's just been through cancer, and I have friends I went to school with … One is down in Sydney with leukaemia."

Mr Leys' mother Jenny will be colouring her hair, as will support brigade captain Amy Rimmer. 

"I'm not sure what colour yet, but we’ve got five cans so we’ll see what happens," Ms Rimmer said.

There will be live music, a jumping castle and raffles on the day. The pub's bistro will also be open for lunch.

Donations for the RFS' shave day can be made online or by donating on the day.

Gunnedah's Krystal Holledge also braved the shave in February, raising more than $5300.
