Boggabri Business and Community Progress Association's John Shaw has welcomed the funding, saying it would boost morale in the current conditions.
"The community would be able to come together and enjoy some time away from the hardships they've got," Mr Shaw said.
"It would be good particularly [for] those with young families to get their mind off things."
The free event will feature food, drinks and entertainment at the Boggabri Golf Club.
"[It is] a wonderful opportunity for all members of our shire communities to partake in social interaction and enjoy a break from the stress of the drought the community is currently facing," Narrabri's deputy mayor Robert Kneale said.
More details on the Drought Stress Buster event are yet to come.
